Special Issue on Systems, Information Systems and Sustainability
Special Issue Editors: Craig Standing and Paul Jackson
The special issue will focus on sustainability, systems and information systems. Sustainability burst onto the scene in 1987 with the publication of the Brundtland Commission report (1987), which defined sustainable development as "development which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs". With heightened environmental awareness it is timely for the discipline of information systems to define its contribution to the sustainability issue.
Target topics that are relevant to this special issue of JoSIT include but are not limited to:
- Guiding sustainability principles for the information systems function in organisations
- Alternatives to economic perspectives on sustainability
- Links between sustainability and IT governance frameworks
- Sustainability and systems development
- Information systems supporting alternative organisational models
- The dangers associated with IT fads
- Case studies highlighting good practice or problems
- The role of knowledge management in sustainability
- Mobile technology and sustainability
- The Internet and sustainability
- Social networking and sustainability
- Globalisation, IT and sustainability
Publication Guidelines
All papers will undergo a blind refereeing process by at least two referees.
Timeline:
- Submission deadline: 31st January 2008
- Reviews returned: March 15th, 2008
- Resubmission of papers: May 15th
- Final decision: June 10th, 2008
- Publication: September 2008
All submissions must be original works which have not appeared elsewhere and which are not being considered for publication with another journal. As the reviewing process will be conducted anonymously, please do not include your name(s) on the submission. People are encouraged to send their papers in by email to:
